Critical reading will begin by assessing the philological features of the texts, and will develop through issues regarding their literary genre, and the rhetorical and linguistic aspects of these works.
Texts: required reading includes the full text of Promessi sposi as well as Storia della colonna infame by Alessandro Manzoni (we recommend the version edited by Lanfranco Caretti and published by Laterza, Bari and Mursia, Milano).
Critique: L. Caretti, Manzoni. Ideologia e stile, Torino, Einaudi, 1972, essays; G. Tellini, Manzoni, Roma, Salerno Editrice, 2007.
