The course is focussing on the documents of the beginning of the 12th Dynasty, and in particular on those used to support the hypothesis of a coregency between two sovereigns, Amenemhet I and his son Senwosret I.

Learning Objectives
The course aims to develop the analytical knowledge and critical analysis of the students, who shall deal directly with the documents which have been used to support the hypothesis of coregency in Egypt. By these means they are expected to develop their skills in making judgements and communicate them.
Prerequisites
At least 12 CFU in the discipline. Most important, the linguistic abilities, though rudimentary, must be strong.

The students who are very interested in the themes of this discipline, are warmly invited to improve their grounding writing a short essay on the subject, under the guidance of the teacher.
Type of Assessment
Oral examination, dealing with the texts examined during the lessons: the students will be asked to show their acquisition of the linguistic rudiments and their learning skills concerning the interpretations of texts.
The students who will deliver a short essay shall talk primarily over it.
Course program
Reading, translation and commentary of the texts concerning the beginning of the 12th Dynasty: those dealing with the death of Amenemhet I and which have suggested the hypothesis of his long coregency with his son Senwosret I. These documents shall be provided from the private stelae with double dating, from the beginning of "Sinuhe"s novel and the Instructions of Amenemhet to his Son, and from the reliefs of the pyramids complex at El-Lisht.
