Course Content
The course includes a general and a monographic part and will be carried out through lectures and seminars. All these parts are necessary to pass the exam. General part: history and geography of the Bronze Age Aegean and main sites of the various regions. Elements of Linear B. Interconnections between the Aegean and the other areas of the Mediterranean. Monographic part: the subject will be chosen according to the number of students and their academic backgrounds.

Teaching Methods
The course includes both lectures and seminars. Students are supposed to actively participate in the discussion and to report orally on the readings
Type of Assessment
The exam is oral and aims to verify the comprehension and knowledge of the relevant subjects and the ability of critical rielaboration. Seminars help the students to focus on the most important aspects of the course
Course program
Geographical and historical framework for the Bronze Age Aegean. Main sites of the various regions. Introduction: theories on the development of complex societies; theories and history of exchange systems in the Mediterranean and in the Aegean; definition of a cultural ‘osmosis’, starting from the ‘Minoan Thalassocracy’. For each period (Early Bronze Age, Middle Bronze Age, Late Bronze Age Early, Late Bronze Age advanced) and for each region (Crete, Cyclades, mainland Greece, SE Aegean): presentation of the historical-economic framework; main sites; material culture; administration; interconnections within the Aegean and between the Aegean and the wider Mediterranean. Monographic part: the subject will be chosen according to the number of students and their academic backgrounds.
