Identification and classification of prehistoric stone assemblages: lithic typology, technology and operational sequences (Chaîne Opératoires). Topics concerning supply and circulation of lithic raw materials will be dealt. During the course, the student will work with lithic artifacts provided by the teacher.

Course program
The course illustrates in a general overview some case studies of prehistoric lithic productions from Palaeolithic to Metals' Age. Elements will be provided for the study and classification of stone tools (typology, technology, lithic raw material) aimed to a historical and cultural contextualization of prehistoric stone assemblages. Archaeological collections will be used to explain the classification methods of lithic artefacts.
