The course is divided into two parts, about 3/4 and 1/4 of the lessons. The first part deals with the history and archaeology of Pharaonic Egypt; the second part a close examination of a subject will be dealt with.

Learning Objectives
The course wants to let the students get full knowledge of the documents and means which have allowed a reconstruction of ancient Egyptian history and civilization; moreover, to get learning skills so that the main monuments of pharaonic age can be identified and set in their proper background. The teacher will explain the latest acquisition, in order to develop reflection and critical method.

Lessons, with the help of images and, when necessary, didactic material.
Type of Assessment
Oral examination , also for Erasmus students or other foreign students, and also for those who have agreed upon a special program, as unable to attend the regular courses: at least three questions on the following subjects: the fundamentals of the historical reconstruction; chronological and historical setting of a period; identification and description of one of the monuments dealt with during the lessons. Questions would check the students' knowledge and understanding with regard to historical processes , main events with correct chronological framing; learning skills and applying knowledge and understanding with regard to important archaeological monuments and sources.
Course program
First part: fundamentals of the discipline, of the chronological and historical reconstruction; modern partitions of Pharaonic history; historic topography with description of the principal monuments, set in their historical and religious background. Second part: The Second Intermediate Period: when Egypt was divided and occupied, (c. 1600-1500 a.C.)
