Knowledge and understanding. The course aims to provide a fundamental knowledge on: a) the theoretical and methodological aspects of contemporary research in developmental psychology; b) the processes and mechanisms that regulate psychological development in cognitive, linguistic, emotional and social competence across the life span, with particular reference to risk and protective factors in typical or atypical development.
Applying knowledge and understanding. The course will provide students the basic, theoretical and methodological, skills necessary to detect the main stages of psychological development over the life span.
Making judgments. Particular emphasis will be paid to develop a critical attitude, and to teach students how to express their opinions and sustain their point of view in front of the group or of the class.
Communication skills. The course will provide to the students the knowledge necessary to use a correct and apppropriate vocabulary.

The course is focused on the main topics of developmental psychology by integrating content and the classical methods with more contemporary theoretical approaches and empirical research results. The course will cover the contents using a life-span perspective, from childhood through the old age, integrating knowledges about typical and atypical development. Particular attention will be given to topics related to the socio-emotional and moral development, the prevention and the rehabilitative interventions across development. The aim of the course is to provide insight into the different areas of development according to the most recent theories and empirical research results in order to provide students with the main indicators of typical and atypical psychological functioning.
