Learning Objectives
Knowledge Objectives:
to learn the basic knowledge of the most relevant themes and problems of the Contemporary history (19th and 20th centuries) in a global perspective.
Skill Objectives:
- knowledge of the main methods for the study of the Contemporary history;
- knowledge of the bibliographic tools for the study of the Contemporary history
Behavior:
- to encourage critical reflection on the origin of some key-aspect of the Contemporary age.

Scholastic knowledge of the Modern and Contemporary History
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons; projection of images, texts, documents.

Attendance is mandatory
Type of Assessment
The exam consists in an written test about three questions: 1. First book, 2. Second book, 3. Topics of the lectures.
The final evaluation consists of average grade obtained in the three parts.
The exam aims to verify:
- the understanding of the main processes of the Contemporary history and its periodization;
- the understanding of the main categories proposed to describe the mentioned phenomena;
- the knowledge of the main events and phenomena since the Dual Revolutions to the end of the 20th Century;
- the skills to establish connections between different events and processes;
- the skill to adopt the terminology of the discipline in an appropriate manner. The test has to be in correct Italian.
The student fails four consecutive tests will have to repeat the course.
Course program
An Introduction to Contemporary History.
The course analyzes the main topics of the Contemporary age, since the Dual Revolution to the present day, with particular attention to the following: periodization; world and global history; revolutionary models, French and Bolshevik; social classes; liberalism; socialism; Mondial wars; fascism; totalitarianisms; Cold War, decolonization; end of the short century; focus on the republican Italy.
