The course is about Gender Anthropology, a discipline that hasn't found yet the due space in Italian Academy, but raises growing interest thanks to the multiple dimensions of the concept "Gender" that is at the same time a theoretical scientific instrument and a pattern for socio-political and educational action.

Learning Objectives
Understanding of the historical development of the anthropological discipline among the social sciences between from the XVIIIth to the XXI century.
Understanding of the concept of gender. In-depth study of two classical anthropologists, Margaret Mead and Claude Levi Strauss.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of history of modernity.

Type of Assessment
Two individual written exams and one oral exam.

The suggested texts allow a global approach to the history of anthropology, to the role of feminism in the development of the concept of gender that is, at the crossroad between the theoretical and the socio-educational dimension.
