The Maniera between Florence and Rome.
The course is born in collaboration with the exhibition that will be held at Palazzo Strozzi from the 21st September with the title "The Cinquecento in Florence Between Michelangelo, Pontormo and Giambologna". During the lessons, various aspects of sixteenth-century figurative culture will be analyzed starting from the phenomenon of "anticlassic experimentalism" to the formation of a language in which conceptualism and extreme sophistication become the rule

Learning Objectives
The course aims to analyze some fundamental episodes of the figurative culture of the sixteenth century in Florence and Rome, trying to highlight the different research paths undertaken by the main protagonists of the period, from Pontormo to Rosso Fiorentino, from Giulio Romano to Perin del Vaga, from Vasari to Gambologna. The course therefore is intended to provide the student with the critical and cultural elements to know the Italian art of the sixteenth century and the ability to recognize its stylistic and formal aspects
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the art of the Sixteenth century in Italy and in Europe. Historical and critical analysis skills and good knowledge of English
Teaching Methods
Lectures with projections of images related to the works in question; visits to the exhibition in Palazzo Strozzi and to some of the most important decorative complexes investigated during the lectures in a date to be agreed with the students

Further bibliographic details will be provided during lessons. Programs for non-attendant students will be defined by consulting the teacher
Type of Assessment
Oral examination with assessment of comprehension of bibliographic texts and images recognition; drafting a catalog entry on one of the places of Florentine Mannerism in the list of "Out of Show" delivered during the lessons.The entries, in addition to the evaluation of the exam, will be judged by a specialized jury and the ten most interesting and complete will be published on the website of the Fondazione di Palazzo Strozzi

During the lessons, various aspects of sixteenth-century figurative culture will be analyzed starting from the phenomenon of "anticlassic experimentalism" to the formation of a language in which conceptualism and extreme sophistication become the rule. The change of vision that is determined in the sixteenth century and the formal changes resulting from it will be studied through various figures of artists that worked in different historical and geographical contexts.
