Learning Objectives
Mastery of the stemmatic principles; knowledge of the techniques of philological analysis of Latin texts. Ability to interpret Latin texts in their cultural context and to carry out metrical analysis.
Prerequisites
Very good knowledge of the Latin language and prosody.
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons.
Type of Assessment
Oral exam. Through translation and commentary of the texts included in the syllabus will be tested the philological skills. Metrical analysis of verse passages dealt with in the lessons will be moreover requested.

Title:
Recensio, examinatio, emendatio.
Controversial and philologically significant passages from Silius Italicus' Punica, Pseudo-Senecan Octavia, and Statius' Thebaid will be text-critically and exegetically analysed. Handouts will be provided by the teacher.
