Learning Objectives
Knowlede:
- mastery of hiragana and katakana.
- acquisition of basic kanji.
- knowledge of elementary level grammar.
- knowledge of basic vocabulary of everyday use.
Applying knowledge:
- ability to read and write typical expressions and sentences written in kanji, katakana and basic kanji.
Communication skills:
- ability to interact with other persons in Japanese, by means of simple expressions and phrases.
The target level is A1 CEFR.

Teaching Methods
Lectures and exercises. Digital and audiovisual instruments may be used.

Dott.ssa Kobayashi is in charge of the considerable part of class.
Attendance is required for at least 2/3rds of the course, except for part-time students.
Type of Assessment
Two written exams, each for one semester, and, after passing the both, one oral exam.
The exam is designed to test:
- mastery of hiragana e katakana.
- acquisition of basic kanji.
- knowledge of elementary level grammar.
- knowledge of the basic vocabulary.
- ability to read and understand elementary level sentences.
- ability to respond, both in writing and orally, to questions about topics on everyday life.
Course program
The first lessons are dedicated to the two orders of syllabic alphabets, hiragana and katakana. Then the elementary level grammar is introduced: copula, conjugation of verbs and adjectives, pronouns, particles, compound and complex sentence etc.
