Learning Objectives
1. Knowledge and understanding: provide the student first with the necessary knowledge concerning the region close to Mesopotamia. 2. Applying Knowledge and understanding: recognizing archaeological objects and contextualize them.

The exam consist of a General discussion on themes and features discussed during the course. It is required: 1..to present a specific theme Chosen by the candidate. 2. to recognize and contextualize an archaeological object or topographic plan. 3. to have critic skills to contextualize material culture
Course program
Archaeology of Preclassical Iran. Elam and upper Tigris from the second Millennium BC to the achemenid period.
The class is divided into three sections
Section I:
Introductory lectures on the Iran of the 4th and third millennium BC (one week)
Section II:
History of the second and first Millenium BC in southern Mesopotamia and western Iran. Lectures on writing systems, architectures, pottery, fine art, religion, administration. Each topic will be presented in chronological order and the main sites and archaeological artifacts will be presented.
Section III:
Workshop with group presentations on specific topics (one week).
