Course Content
Students will be introduced to the study of theatrical literature and other expressive forms connected to it through the critical analysis of selected works by Molière and some modern and contemporary re-writings (theatrical, novels, cinema, comics). Both the original works and the rewritings will be included in the historical-literary context in which they were produced.

Learning Objectives
The 72-hour course aims to:
a). to allow a first approach to the study of French theatrical literature and to its modern and contemporary rewritings (theatrical, romance, cinematographic, comics);
b. offer a wealth of historical-cultural and stylistic-formal knowledge, designed to facilitate the understanding of the theatrical text in its various aspects as well as its literary, graphic and cinematographic rewritings;
c. develop the critical capacity through the reading and analysis of some theatrical texts, considered among the most representative of the literary culture of the French language of the seventeenth century and of their modern and contemporary rewritings (XVII-XXI century).
1. Knowledge and understanding: The course allows students to reach an in-depth and critical understanding of the formal and substantial structure of texts, graphic and cinematographic productions treated during the lessons and allows them to become familiar in particular with the historical, literary and socio-cultural context of the seventeenth-century French theatrical production, up to the analysis of modern and contemporary rewritings.
2. Applying knowledge and understanding: The course develops the ability to understand, summarize and propose critical analyzes of literary texts and scheduled rewritings
3. Making judgments: The student will be able to establish a dialogue on the issues addressed during the course, formulating autonomous and motivated judgments, and critically elaborating the contents introduced and discussed in class.
4. Communication skills: The course prepares to communicate effectively in oral form on the topics covered during the lessons, with particular attention to literary content.
5. Learning skills: Students acquire a methodological mastery aimed at the study of literature, the different literary genres and some expressive forms related to them

Type of Assessment
Oral exam. The exam will test students’ knowledge of:
1. historical-literary context taken into consideration in class
2. specific themes and problems related to theatrical literature (in particular the French seventeenth century) and the production of rewrites in the modern and contemporary era (XVII-XXI century)
3. texts (both critical and literary) and other forms of rewriting (graphic, cinematographic)
The three specific parts will be verified with articulated questions, which cover all areas. During the test the student will be asked to analyze what he has discussed in class and the student's ability to know how to move within the primary texts and the material provided on the moodle platform will be evaluated.
To pass the exam it is necessary to demonstrate a sufficient level of preparation in all three parts.
The final evaluation consists of the set of assessments obtained in the three parts.
The oral exam aims to verify:
- the knowledge of the basic concepts of the history of French literature relative to what was discussed during the course;
- the ability to describe literary phenomena by placing them in their historical and cultural context;
- the ability to read and comment on the texts being studied with expressive mastery;
- the ability to use critical terminology appropriately.
The student must demonstrate that he/she is able to hold a critical interview on the topics covered during the course, possibly proposing connections between different works / authors and expressing himself with clarity and precision.
The score of the exam is given by a mark expressed in thirtieths. In the evaluation of the exam the determination of the final grade takes into account the following elements:
1) knowledge of the formal and substantial structure of the topics covered during the lessons;
2) ability to understand, summarize and propose critical readings of the texts in the program;
3) ability to formulate independent and motivated judgments;
4) clarity of exposure.
The fulfillment of aspects 1 and 4 is a necessary condition for passing the exam (grade not lower than 18/30); Higher grades will be awarded to students whose exams meet at least in part the aspects listed above, while to achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must instead demonstrate to have acquired an excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course.

Contents:
The course introduces students to the study of theatrical literature and other expressive forms connected to it through the critical analysis of selected works by Molière and of some modern and contemporary rewrites (theatrical, romance, cinema, comics). Both the initial and final works will be included in their historical-literary context. In order to develop the critical abilities of the student and the understanding of the different types of texts presented, the course will introduce the main tools of critical analysis and will address the main theoretical issues related to the study of literature (in particular theatrical), to the concept of rewriting and literary translation
