Learning Objectives
Mastery of the stemmatic principles; knowledge of the techniques of philological and metrical analysis of Latin texts. Ability to interpret Latin texts in their cultural context.
Prerequisites
Very good knowledge of the Latin language and prosody.
Teaching Methods
Traditional lectures.
Type of Assessment
Oral examination. Through translation and commentary of the texts included in the syllabus philological, metrical, and linguistic skills will be tested.
Theoretical questions on the stemmatic method will also be asked.
Course program
Title:
Tibullus and the corpus Tibullianum. A textual reappraisal.
Controversial and philologically significant passages from Tibullus' Elegies and the corpus Tibullianum (to be read in full by the students) will be analysed text-critically, metrically, and exegetically. Handouts will be provided by the teacher.
