Course program
The course studies the relationship between the Hispanic world and the three cultures present in Spain since centuries, the Muslim, the Jewish, and the Christian. After we will focus on Hispanic America, in two crucial moments: the first one concerns the period of the expulsion of the Jewish after the Reconquer of Granada in 1492 and the consequent defeat of the Arabian people by the Catholic Monarchs; the second one will deepen the situation of the Jewish living in the Hispanic American territory, as a consequence of the pogrom in the Russian history (above all during the forty-year period 1881-1921) and the wars in Europe, especially in the Second World War and the nazi-fascist politics. During the course students will study two works belonging to two authors by the Arabian world, a writer and a female poet, both coming from Colombia; two authors by the Jewish world, a Chilean poet and a Mexican female writer and essayist; and two authors by the Christian world, a Nicaraguan poet and a Colombian writer.
The full course gives 12 cfu. Students who want to take their exam with only 6 cfu should contact the Professor for an appropriate reduction of the programm, including 3 authors.
