The course aims to treat the funfamental contents of Linguistics: concepts, categories and methodological tools relevant for syntax (lexical classes, constituents, sentence, modality and voice structures, subordinates), morphological analysis (inflection and derivation), phonology (features, rules and representations, syllabic structure) and semantic analysis (syntax and interpretation). Descriptive and theoretical models in the study of the language will be presented.

Learning Objectives - 1 semester - last names A-L
Knowledge objectives:
The course aims to provide the sudents with a good knowledge of the fundamental concepts in the linguistc analysis and to make the students able to apply them to linguistic phenomena
Behaviour objectives:
The course points to stimulate the students
- to use consciuously and actively the University structure on thre whole and the tools necessary for orienting and managing the student career
strumenti di orientamento e di gestione della carriera studentesca
- to contribute to a correct and enriching relation between the teacher and the student
- towards a civil and shared use of the study resources of the CdS and the School
Learning Objectives - 2 semester - last names M-Z
The course aims to provide the main knowledge and understanding abilities regarding the linguistic studies, both at theoretical and methodological levels. The knowledge objectives regard, more specifically, the acquisition of: specialized terminology; knowledge of the properties of human language; basic knowledge and analytical skills at different levels: phonetic and phonology, morphology and lexicon, syntax, semantics, pragmatics; foundations of corpus linguistics. Among the course objectives, there are also the acquisition of the abilities to communicate in a clear way the acquired knowledge, also in specialistic contexts, to develop the learning abilities needed for solve linguistic issues, and to take up more advanced studies in the field. The extra-disciplinary goal of the course is to stimulate students to develop: (a) an informed use of the academic environment, of the CdS, of the assistance facilities for managing the student careers; (b) a conscious participation and an effective student-teacher collaboration; (c) an aware use of the learning resources provided by both CdS and Scuola.
Prerequisites - 1 semester - last names A-L
Basic knowledge in the linguistic analysis are required. Substantially the knowledge ontained in the study of Italian hgrammar or the grammar of a stranger language in the secondary school.

Type of Assessment - 1 semester - last names A-L
The exam for the student of the triennial degree is based on a written test including 8 or 9 open questions with possible oral verifications.
The questions regard the different topics treated during the lessons: the structure of the sentence, the synctatic categories, the modality and the voice, the morphological structure of the word - inflection and derivation -, phonetic analysis, phonological analysis - features, rules and processes, representations, syllabic and prosodic structures, the linguistic varuiation, the models and concepts of the theory of the language.
The exam aims to verify the knowledge that the students have acquired in the different topics and their capacity to use these notions in facing linguistic problems and real cases of processes.
Type of Assessment - 2 semester - last names M-Z
The examination will be oral for all students. The examination will consist of at least three questions on the different parts of the course, in order to cover all the topics addressed during the lessons, and namely: (a) properties of human language; (b) phonetics and phonology; (c) morphology, lexicon and syntax; (d) semantics and pragmatics; (e) corpus linguistics. Students need to demonstrate a sufficient knowledge of all parts of the program in order to pass the examination. Moreover, the examiners will also assess the communication skills of the students as well as their ability to establish connections among the different topics and to re-elaborate the knowledge acquired during the course in an autonomous way. The final mark will be calculated as the average of the marks obtained in the different parts.
Course program - 1 semester - last names A-L
The program of the course presents an articulation corresponding to the traditional levels of analysis.
After introducing the fundamental questions of the analysis of the natural languages, including the concepts concerning the notion of natural language and the linguistic human faculty, the lessons treat the notions concerning the syntactic, phonological and semantic anlysis, by means the discussion of examples drawn fron different languages beside Italian.
Syntax: lexical categories, constituents/ phrases, sentence, syntactic categories, thematic roles, simple and complex sentences, infinitival subordinates, modality (interrogsatives, imperative, subordinate sentences), voice (unaccusatives, passives), morphological analysis (inflection and derivation). Topic and focus and informational organization of the sentence.
Phonology: phonetic description, phonological analysis (features and rules, representations, syllabic and prosodic structures)
Semantics: the relation between syntax and intepretation. Lexical entries and meaning
Notions concerning the linguistic variation and the typology of the languages
Course program - 2 semester - last names M-Z
