Learning Objectives
At the end of the lessons students are supposed to be able to read, translate and annote texts belonging to apocryphal Gospels and Acts. They will be also able to
follow "Fortleben" and
influence of those texts on arts and modern literature.
At the end of the lessons students are supposed to be able to read an apocryphal Gospel and Act in their connection with canonical texts.
and to map their "Fortleben" in painting and modern modern literature.
Prerequisites
Good knowledge of Greek, Latin, Classical philology.
Students able to read Biblical Hebrew are welcome.
Teaching Methods
Traditional lesson with active participation of students who are invited to discuss problems posed by the texts.

Protoevangelium Jacobi and the Apocryphal Actis of Paul and Thecla.
1. Protoevangelium.
Transmission of the text. Comparison with Papyrus Bodmer V. Biblical and classical sources. The stasis of nature at the birth of an important personage; the rite of ordeal. The theme of twelve years. The fortune of the text in paintings and in literature.
2. Tecla. A woman against tradition. the Martyr who does not die. The girl who baptized herself and put on the dress of the apostles. The different meaning of Thecla: by many ecclesiastical writers she is presented as the model of priest's housekeeper. Her icongraphic success.
