Learning Objectives
Adequate understanding of Early Modern European history. Knowledge and understanding of historical events and processes as well as applying knowldge of historical information in adult education today. Ability to judge critically, learning acquisition of communication skills and competence to further independent research.
Prerequisites
A general high school understanding of Early Modern history. Passive knowledge of English would be welcome.

Type of Assessment
Oral exam for all students, including Erasmus students.The examination is meant to verify knowledge and understanding of key processes and events in the field also with regard to adult education. Critical ability of making historical judgements and capacity to further independent research also in the field of adult education.
Course program
The lectures provide a close reading of Euroean history from the late fifteeenth century to the aftermath of the French Wars. Special attention is paid to key structural and social factors during the Old Regime (demography and the family, State and Church relations. the Courst and the aristocracy, welfare and the poor). Political ruptures, such as the English Civil Wars, the American and French Revolutions and the development of the administrative monarchy under Napoleon are also discussed adequately.
