Overview

The School of Humanities and Education was established in January 2013 as a result of Law 240/2010 concerning the reorganization of the public university system in Italy.
The School is heir to an illustrious tradition: some of the most outstanding Italian scholars and intellectuals of the 20th century have taught in Florence, including Michele Barbi, Ranuccio Bianchi Bandinelli, Piero Bigongiari, Walter Binni, Delio Cantimori, Lanfranco Caretti, Umberto Cassuto, Gianfranco Contini, Domenico De Robertis, Giacomo Devoto, Eugenio Garin, Roberto Longhi, Cesare Luporini, Oreste Macrì, Bruno Migliorini, Giovanni Nencioni, Alessandro Parronchi, Giorgio Pasquali, Ernesto Sestan and distinguished pedagogists, such as Ernesto Codignola, Lamberto Borghi, Antonio Santoni Rugiu, Leonardo Trisciuzzi. The variety of disciplines and breadth of fields of interest find true embodiment in the Humanities Library, the largest in the University of Florence system and one of Italy's largest and most prestigious university libraries.

According to the Statute of the University of Florence, the Schools coordinate the teaching delivered in the Degree Programs (Bachelor's and Master's) and Specialization Schools and manage their related services. The operation and duties of the School are governed by the Regulations of the School.
